Taking family portraits is an important part of our photographic journey. And so is making portraits of our 4-legged family members. We sometimes forget to take the time to honor our canine friends with a portrait or two, but it’s really easy to take an awesome, professional-looking picture of our pets. Here are 6 steps to taking great pictures of your dog.

Shooting things, people, skies, mountains or buildings reflected in water can be really beautiful, but becomes even more mysterious when you flip the shot upsidedown. Next time you’re confronted with a reflection, try flipping the shot upside down.

I think this might be my favorite picture from our vacation. It sums up the whole visit for me – nature and Chloe all bundled up in winter clothes. I like that this single image tells a story. You get the sense that she collected this pine cone as a treasure [...]

I think I’m obsessed. I seriously love this fence at my in-laws’ house. I’ve photographed it upside down and sideways. And now it’s snowing (hurray!), so I’m hoping to shoot it early in the morning covered in snow before we leave for the airport. Part of the fence is covered [...]

Granted, all of the junk was not our own. We inherited 60 years worth of garage workshop engine grease, nuts, bolts, cobwebs, [...]

You can get great results with the Macro function on a compact camera. I generally reach for my compact camera when shooting macro because you can get so close to an object when shooting in daylight. When I was out on a walk the other day, I shot these baby pine cones. [...]

I shot this picture in a tunnel near Crystal Cove Beach near Newport, California a couple of weekends ago. The tunnel was really cool and I wanted the exterior part in the center to be blown out and overexposed.
