Photo a Day – Spring Is Coming (And Bokeh!)
Day 3
::
Today was one of those amazing almost-spring days over here. The air was warm. The breeze was cool. The sky was a mix of blues and whites and just a little gray. And the world just felt alive. At least my yard did, anyway. So I headed outside around 4pm to catch the last of the good sun. Sure the grass needs a good mowing (see above). But in its defense, I wouldn’t have gotten such great bokeh on this shot from a nicely manicured lawn. I was using my 50mm lens with the aperture open all the way to 1.8 to allow for the really great depth of field.
This photo though? I just couldn’t resist a “field” full of dandelions. (And by field, I mean a neighbor’s lawn!) As a kid I used to blow the dandelion seeds from the stem and make a wish as I did it. I just loved how many of these dandelions I stumbled across today that were already half blown away. The scene just seemed sort of poetic to me. Also, who can resist dandelion bokeh, I ask? Who? I added a little texture on top of this photo (on the luminosity setting) to give it more depth and then took the saturation down enough to give it more of a muted feel. Now I’ve got to go see about gathering up some of those wishes-to-be for my daughter. Seems I’ve spawned a new generation of dandelion-blowing wish makers. Also, I think I might just go lie in that unmowed grass for the rest of the day!
