February 3rd Week Photo Contest: Diptychs
I am a huge fan of diptychs. I use them all the time in my photography. In case you’re not familiar with the term, a diptych is a photograph that uses two images side by side to form one new artistic statement. These two images can be combined in a way so that they are touching or they can be separated by a border, like above.
There are many reasons that I personally like to use diptychs. One is to fill out the story a little bit. Sometimes after finishing a shoot, I’ll end up with photos that are just mediocre on their own. But when combined with another image from the same shoot, the completed diptych might tell a better story. Another reason I use them is because they are just artistically fun to make. I love trying to come up with different angles of something to shoot, knowing that later I can put two photographs of the same thing (or completely different things!) side by side and creatively come up with a whole new image.
This week we’re challenging you to come up with your own diptychs for our contest. And don’t worry if you don’t know how to do this in Photoshop or other image editing software. You can easily make your own using the mosaic maker over at Big Huge Labs. Just adjust the colums and rows accordingly. So get out there and show us what you’ve got! No excuses.
