December 3rd Week Contest: Holiday Bokeh
This is the time of year of twinkly lights everywhere—houses, trees, mantels. And don’t forget all the candles and yule logs. The opportunities for holiday bokeh are endless right now, and we’re challenging you to capture it this week for our contest.
Of course, I’m challenging you to stretch yourself a little further than I did on my bokeh tree pictured here. But it was too beautiful to pass up. And just think of the bonus with bokeh: if you can’t get anything to focus correctly in the low light, just go to the extreme other end of the spectrum and un-focus! Of course, if you need a quick refresher on bokeh, this article in our archives might help. And be sure to stop by our Flickr group to submit your shots.
As for the tree: we accidentally bought a very large one this year because we couldn’t remember how tall ours was last year. Oops. Note to self: 5-6 feet tall will suffice. 6-7 feet? Very large and very awesome!

it makes me think of the super-tall tree my aunt used to get every christmas while i was growing up…christmas eve family parties at her home were always so much fun!

We need to name it something. GIGANTOR works, but it feels a little hollow. Something with warmth. Something that implies that the tree could breathe fire if it so chose.

It IS a big tree! We are loving it. Maybe “the Annihilator” is a better name for it!
