Letter from Chris: Aspirational

If you looked at my LinkedIn profile, you’d see that I am an “Itinerant Pastor” - fancy speak for somebody who preaches without having a church - a fact which might seem strange to the people I work with.  See, each day I go to an office, scan my hand through the time clock thing (yes, I feel like groceries every time I do it) and go to my desk where I attempt to get through my list of chores, all while stealing glances at the clock to see if it’s time for lunch or time to go home (I don’t hate my job - I just really like lunch and my family).  I’ve thought about updating my LinkedIn profile with information about where I work, but - aside from the fact that we’re not allowed to tell people where we work - I think it’s important to keep in front of me the fact that I’m more than a single job.  I’m aspirational.

Being aspirational.  Having a sense that you are or at least can be what you hope for.  Isn’t that what most photographers are?  I’m sitting here making a list of the photographers I know and every one of them has plans, dreams and hopes.  They want to push their craft further and find themselves doing things they couldn’t have done yesterday or even today.  I can’t think of a single photographer in my life that would be happy taking the same photograph over and over.  Even if the subject is the same, they’re always pushing the limits of their equipment or skill to get it “right.”  I think that’s one reason I love working on Digital Photography Blogs: I get to be part of the aspirations of dreamers and perfectionists, and that’s a wonderful place to be.

This week we’re getting a little more technical.  Whether it’s our answers to our Twitter readers or write-ups on some new software releases, be ready to get your geek on.  While you’re geeking out, however, take a moment to share with us what you hope for with your photography.

Great post, Chris! Of course, you know what I hope for with my photography. And, with my first “real” client tomorrow, I think I might just get there yet. :-)

First “real’ client? Good luck, Amy! Yeah, photogs are dreamers, Chris. I dream of the day we get a pocket digicam with 2gp resolution and a liquid 12-2000mm zoom lens. ;) (solar powered of course).

NOW you’re talkin’!
