Year In Pictures: To Focus Or Not?

YIP ~ Day 258

I was playing around with the manual focus on my camera while taking pictures in my backyard of the city lights. I really liked how the blurry, out-of-focus shots were turning out. Unfortunatley, on their own these shots more closely resemble my vision first thing in the morning after a long night of answering baby cries. But paired with that same backyard view in sharp focus it creates a unique diptych and an interesting way to change up an average photo.

Try it out sometime for yourself. Shoot an in-focus photo and then combine that picture with the same subject in varying degrees of focus to see what works for you. I’m definitely going to be trying this idea again soon. And next time I’ll do it with more daylight to give the sharper image more detail in it to focus on.
