Year In Pictures: The County Fair

YIP ~ Day 255

We hit the county fair this weekend to see some farm animals up close and, of course, to sample the fine fried cuisine that abounds there. My daughter loved getting so close to the goats, sheep and calves. And I loved following her around with my camera. Of course, it wasn’t necessarily the best photography conditions, as we were in a lowly lit barn much of the time and, in order to travel light, I only had my 50mm lens that doesn’t auto-focus on my Nikon D40x. I got a bunch of blurry shots, but thankfully a few gems, too.

You certainly managed to get a few gems while there. I like the colors you were able to get on the photo with your daughter and the goat. It’s very pleasing to look at. Any chance you’ll share the processing technique you used?

Thanks, John! Sorry I didn’t add my processing technique above. I believe on that one I actually used an action on it and did a bunch of my own tweaks on it. The action was a vintage one of Courtney Tran’s Actions that she used to offer free. Unfortunately, I’ve searched Flickr and I don’t think they are available anymore. But essentially, it just amps up curves, adds brightness and a layer mask with a little blue to give it a vintage feel. I was bummed about the blown out highlights, but I decided to just go with it and blow them out even more with curves and thankfully I liked the outcome because I didn’t get that many of my daughter looking at me with her eyes in focus!
