Can You Guess What It Is?

Guess what it is

OK, here is my second try for the Digital Photography Blogs group contest, Guess What It Is. This one is a little trickier, I think. Any guesses?

The inside of a grandfather (or similar) clock.

I wrote that response first, then I clicked on the image to see a larger version to confirm. On your Flickr page I was greeted with a few photos of the rest of the clock. Might want to isolate the “guess what it is” photos from other photos of the item in the future. :P

chimes in the grandfather clock?

I’m thinking chimes too! (gotta check out the Flickr spoiler page…unless it’s “disinformation”)

I was going to say it was a grandfather clock, but it would be hard to get a picture of the two pulleys and the center doesn’t look much like a pendulum. I’m going to guess it’s a weight-driven clock or a cuckoo clock.

Ha! The smarty pantses found the secret hint on Flickr. OK, not so secret. :-) But yes, this is the inside of a grandfather clock. A little tricky to take this based on guess-focusing, as my 50mm does not auto focus on my camera. Had to take many to get one that had the focus where I wanted it!

@ John, the reason the center doesn’t look like a pendulum is because it’s actually 3 pulleys. I didn’t get the pendulum in this shot. Just trying to throw you all off, ya know. ;-)

[...] you guessed Grandfather clock as the mystery shot in my last post for the Getting in Close: Guess What It Is contest, you were right. Here’s a more clear view [...]

Excellent job on the photo! It’s a beautiful clock. Any chance we can get you to put up a photo of the whole clock?

Thanks, John! I will try to get a full clock shot soon!

yeah, it looks like the weights for a grandfather clock
