Year in Pictures: Sunflowers And A Little Perspective

YIP ~ Day 224

More up close with nature.

Ever had one of those days where you smell like baby spit up and you’ve cleaned up your fair share of poop for the day and by 4pm you haven’t even had a shower or, come to think of it, brushed your teeth, so while you’re in the grocery store you decide you want—no, you need—to have some fresh flowers for your kitchen? And then you smile to yourself on the way home because you think how nice it will be to photograph them later? If you haven’t had one of those days, I highly suggest it. I wouldn’t trade mine for the world.

I love sunflowers! I’m not a flower kind of guy, but there’s something about sunflowers that I really enjoy… I think it might have to do with the fact that chipmunks help in getting them planted in weird places.

I like the colors you got out of that photo. Did you do any processing to it or creative white balancing?

Thanks, John! I agree — sunflowers are such beautiful, happy flowers. We used to have them planted, but this summer I have to settle for store bought.

As for the processing: I adjusted levels, as the photo came out a little darker than I wanted, and then scaled the yellow and red way back.
