Summer in Black & White

summer feet

I love punchy colors and the splashy sunlight reflecting off the ocean in summer. But sometimes summer looks great in black & white. I took a trip to the beach the other day, and it was unexpectedly foggy. The beach can look gloomy without sharp shadows, so I decided to look at the pictures through black & white. As with most b&w photography, it lends a timelessness to the pictures, and these make me want to be there with my sand in my toes.

You can see the difference that black & white makes to this image. The color version is soft but nothing special. Removing the color changes the picture entirely.

This shot below also improved a lot when converting to B&W. It was taken with my Nikon and a 116mm lens, f/5.6, 1/2000sec.

Great post! This is something that I’ve been thinking about a lot lately but haven’t really commited many images to B&W. I may have B&W phobia…

Thanks!
