What’s Cookin’?
No, your feed reader isn’t broken. This is a real, actual post from Shooting the Kids. There’s really no excuse for abandoning a blog like we have, but in lieu of long winded excuses about being busy and promising to do a better job, how about if I fill you in on some of the news here at StK? Well keep reading, then…
Chris’ New Job
For about a year, I was working on a project called Glued Ideas. Part of that project was building and launching DPBlogs, which in turn lead me to build a theme for WordPress called Subtle which ended up becoming sort of popular among a particular type of blogger. The problem with all of this is that blog themes, while cool, don’t pay the bills and really don’t leave you feeling like you’ve made the world a better place. I ended up getting back into full-time church ministry by taking a job as a youth pastor in July, a position that pays almost as little as making blog themes and takes 5000 times the emotional and personal investment. Trust me, it’s worth every second.
Moving to a New Town
Then, because starting a new job isn’t enough chaos for a family of three, we moved in to my family’s house to take over the property, fix it up, and eventually have my mom come and live with us. It’s an exciting process that I think we’ll be working through for the next decade.
Some day I’ll get to the back yard.
Lots of Photography
All along the way we’ve been taking more and more pictures and getting to know that Nikon we bought Amy. Seriously, you don’t learn how to use a camera – you get to know it, like a person. The more time you spend together, the better you understand one-another and the more natural your communication is. I find myself carrying the Nikon everywhere now, not noticing the extra weight or thinking about settings. I can move quickly enough through the options that I don’t worry about whether or not they’re correct for the shot – I just keep changing and experimenting. It’s like… well… like looking. Which is cool.
As a side note, we got passes to Disneyland. Watching Sophia meet the characters and give them hugs was worth every penny we spent. The pace of a toddler is perfect for a photographer too – walking next to her I have a chance to get a few more shots that if I was running next to a teenager. This is a magical time.
More to Come
I’m not one to make promises I can’t keep, but expect to see more regularity out of the blog. Thanks to everyone who keeps coming back and supporting the other bloggers here. It’s a wonderful team effort and one that I’m thankful to be part of. See you soon!

Yes, that’s John from SyncSpeed playing the piano while we toil to move it out of the house.
