Day 29-Planes & Trains

Today my wife and I took a trip to the March Air Reserve Base airplane museum and to the Train Museum in Perris,Califorrnia.

The weather was perfect, and it was a nice, relaxing day off!

So, my photo of the day is of an Old Pacific Electric Red-Car like the kind they used to run through downtown Los Angeles, Pasedena and Long Beach prior to the building of the freeways…

The Air Museum at March (in Riverside California ) has some great static displays of all sorts of airplanes. Having been open since just prior to the end of World War One, they had some old Jennys and other old wooden planse, all the way up to a Superfortress, a B-52 (which is absolutely huge) and a SR-71 Blackbird which was the ultimate spyplane.

With all the lines and wires, it’s amazing these things can really fly.

They also had a few foreign-aircraft including this Russian MIG.

At the airbase nextdoor, they were practicing touch-and-go landings with the big-birds!

At the train museum in Perris,California, they had a lot of old trains and trolley cars. It’s quite a big place with a lot of rolling-stock that they’re slowly restoring.

You can imagine the lights flashing and the bell ringing, alerting you to the approaching trains.

this big behemoth was once the pride of the steam-powered rails.

So, stop-look-and-listen and go check out these 2 interesting museums!

I love the old trains and trolley cars. They’re derelict and beautiful all at once. Nice.

Thanks, Stephanie. Yes, they make for fun photo-ops! Congratulations on catching-up with the Challenge too!

Jim - Great photos from the Air & Train museum’s. Looks like we will have to visit there also. Too fun we were both at different Air museums (we at the Palm Springs one) on the same day!!
Can hardly wait to see your pictures from vacation!

Hey Wendy! Great to hear from you and thanks for the comments.
I’m back from touring 4-countries and have a BOATLOAD of photos.
I haven’t yet gone through them (still jet-lagging), but you’ll be the first to see the better ones!
