Film and Photo Workshops
Summer is fast approaching and I can think of no better way to spend it than to take a class or two at the Maine Photographic Workshops. There are many film and photography workshops in the world, but my all-time favorite place to learn is at the Maine Workshops. They have week-long classes, summer programs, 1-year certificate programs, and you can even get your degree there now. There are classes in photography, film, travel and adventure programs and even a program for teens…
Many years ago, I took a class there (Electronic Cinematography) and fell in love with the place. That led to another class and another, when finally, I quit my job at WGGB-TV and went to work at The Workshops as the Film Office Manager.
The 2007 catalog is available now online or you can order one to be sent to your house. The film classes are amazing, particularly Film & HD Camera Assistant, Film Cinematography, and Feature Film Lighting. For Photography classes, I’d love to take Night & Low Light Photography, B&W Digital Darkroom, and Stock Photography.
Alas, I will not be taking a class there this year, but in my dream of dreams, I’d take a class there every single summer forever…
If you live near Maine, their summer job fair is going on this weekend. It’s a great place to learn, make contacts. There’s practically no money in it, but they give you a place to live, 3 meals a day, and a lobster dinner every Friday night.
I took this red van shot while I lived there. I was parked a block or so from the water in Camden, Maine, one of the prettiest little towns anywhere.
