Day 12 - Caprica

Day 12 - Caprica This is a new (ish) building at Azusa Pacific University. I like it because when there are no students around, it has a stark, 1950’s post-modern kind of look. With this sepia-lite toning, it also reminds me of Caprica on Battlestar Galactica. Nothing like a little post-apocalyptic architecture to get you in an academic frame of mind.

I used the curve of the cement around the water to lead the eye through the frame, and the strong verticals on the right lift the eye to the top. I wish the bottom curve came around just a little bit more to bottom right so there would be a visual indication of the bottom right corner. I would also like a more distinctive “pay off” within the frame. Maybe I’ll try to make this shot again another day.

Caprica 2 Here is another shot but panned over a little from the first position. Isn’t it grim? This library looks really nice on a pretty day with lots of brightly-dressed college students around. But empty, it’s seriously bleak. I used a 17mm lens fairly close to the building to get the exaggerated curve at the top.
