Day 11: Take The Same Photo At Different Times

Old and weathered For my Day 11 shot for the Photo A Day challenge, I decided to revisit a cool old wall on our property that I had shot a couple days ago. I had originally photographed the wall on a day when I had toured the yard and had actually come up with a few other shots I really liked for the challenge. I went with the garden hose on macro (Day 9) instead, so my shot of the old weathered wall didn’t make the cut.

Read on for an earlier version of this photo.

Today was a hectic day around here and my toddler was extra busy. (I’ve decided to blame it on the three-week early Daylight Savings time change!) When I finally got around to taking my camera out at the end of the day, I had just under an hour of light left to work with. I remembered the fun shot I had taken of the old wall two days ago, so I headed over to see if I could replicate the same shot today.

Weathered wall, 2 days earlierWhen I viewed both images next to each other it was cool to see the slight differences. Same wall, different light. I’m really glad I went back and shot this same wall again a couple hours later in the day. I had liked the original version (to the left), but after I shot the wall again today, I ended up liking that one better (top photo). The differences are not at all drastic, but I like the warmer colors today from the setting sun reflecting off the white cracking paint.

This photo challenge has been fun for me to try new things with my photography. I might even go back and shoot that same wall in the morning on another day just to see if my colors change drastically.

I challenge you, too, to photograph the same object on different days or at different times of the day to see what slight differences you come up with. Even when the changes are subtle, it’s cool to compare.
