RAW Conversion Help?!
OK, all you RAW users out there. I’m looking for an easy (and cheap/free) procedure to download images off my CF card and convert them so I can look at them and edit.
One problem I’m finding is that my Nikon names the RAW files with the same numbers every time, so I have to create a new folder every single time I download. A total pain. I currently have no good organization method for my images but I don’t want to spend a bunch of money on a whole new system. I already have Photoshop and like it, and am investigating Lightroom, but don’t really want to spend $199 for a whole new program.
You photographers out there who are totally efficient and have a great system for downloading, converting, editing and uploading to Flickr, please share your secrets!

You can go to the menu in your camera and change the numbering system to File Number Sequence “on” and that will keep the numbers progressing.

All I’m sayin’ is… F-Spot in Ubuntu. It’s free, does RAW and integrates really well with Flickr, Picassa, etc. And there’s an install disc right next-door!

I just use the program that came with my camera.. Don’t know if Nikon hands those out though.
