Day 6 - Fire Squares

Day 6 Fire Squares I’m feeling a little abstract this month (read: out of it). That seems to be coming out in my photography. This is a large mosaic candle vase that sits in front of the large front windows. The afternoon sun was backlighting the vase, making a cool lighting effect. I shot this with the Nikon DSLR and had on my long zoom lens. I think this was shot with about a 200mm lens. I played around with overexposing the shot quite a bit, but ultimately settled upon this one (shot +1 stop overexposed) because the colors looked rich. Mosaic Vase Part of the abstractness (is that a word? how about abstract-itude?) of this shot is that the focus is just behind the squares so the opposite side of the vase is sharply in focus.

Here is the same vase but side-lit. It’s ok, but kind of boring.

Chloe was crawling all over me while I took these shots. Every now and then there would be an out-of-focus ear in the frame or a nice greasy handprint on the front filter. She thought it was the most hilarious thing ever. Many giggles ensued from both of us.
