Playing With An Umbrella
I received a great photo umbrella and universal swivel holder from my sister-in-law this past Christmas. As usual, Strobist turned my onto these low cost wonders. I’ve been doing a lot of cardboard lightbox macro shots lately and have been pretty happy. However, the box does somewhat hinder your ability to vary the direction of the light. It also restricts you to a certain size object. So I was mighty pleased to get my new umbrella and holder and finally had a chance to try them out tonight. I’ll post a setup photo later (forgot to take one), but I was happy with the results from a 5 minute test. The following was taken with my Nikon D70, SP-800 mounted on the holder and bounced from the umbrella, at f/8. I’ll be sure to post more after I get a chance to get a feel for working with my new toys. And the best part about this umbrella…it only took a few minutes to setup and break down!
