Teaching
So I’ve been teaching more at Azusa Pacific University. I work there as an adjunct professor and this semester I’m teaching Broadcast Journalism and doing the lecture portion of their Motion Picture Production class. It’s going really well, I think. Last semester and for the last couple of years, I taught Basics of Cinematography. It’s definitely a challenge to create a course from scratch, particularly as an adjunct, where you’re part of the school but not really.
We’re doing a lot of cool things in Broadcast Journalism right now. The students have already profiled the local LA television affiliates and will start writing news stories this week. Then we’ll move on to working with video, interviewing, editing, and podcasting.
At first, I was worried about teaching a daytime class three times a week because of Chloe. What to do with the baby?! (My other classes are at night, and Shayne gets home in time to to take care of Chloe). But through the Communications department, I was able to find an awesome student, Jana, to hang out with Chloe while I’m teaching. It’s so easy. I show up at school with Smush, meet Jana and do the hand-off, teach for an hour and there they are waiting for me outside the classroom when I’m done. Chloe was a little upset the first day, but it’s been smooth sailing ever since.
What I’m really hoping to teach in the next year or two is a Television Industry class covering ratings, programming, how the money works, advertising, pilot season, the studios, etc. I would be totally psyched to teach that. Hopefully that will work out.

The course sounds really good. Is any of the material online to read? Love your child minding arrangement too. If you’ve gotta leave your child, I’d reckon your way would be the best way to do it.
