Other Interests Besides Photography

While my camera is still in the shop, I thought I’d take a second to tell you about some of my other interests.  In no particular order.

  • Boston sports – I primarily follow the Red Sox and Patriots, but also like to pay attention to the Celtics.  Out of all the online Boston sports resources I’ve seen, I most frequent the Sons of Sam Horn.
  • Traditional shaving – While it certainly results in a closer shave with less irritation, traditional wetshaving appeals to me because of the link to past, simpler days.  If you’re curiosity is piqued by this, the guys at badgerandblade.com will set you in the right direction.
  • Board games – Christine and I have recently renewed our interest in board games.  While I don’t visit it very often, Gary directed me to the great resource called BoardGameGeek.
  • Backpacking/mountain biking – Two things I love, but just can’t seem to find the time for right now.  Maybe this summer, when it’s warmer and #2 is a little order, Christine and I will get out there again.  I miss it.
  • Basketball – Growing up, I never played basketball much outside of my driveway.  However, a few years ago I started playing during lunch with the guys at work.  I now play at least twice a week and am loving it.

So what about you?  What are your other interests?

Responses and Conversations

For me, it’s railfanning, model railroading, philately and record collecting (comedy/novelty and early jazz). The first two relate to photography in that railfanning includes photography of trains and railroad subjects and model railroading includes macro photography.

I have a picture of you in my head shaving with a straight blade and sharpening it on the leather strap attached to your saddle…

For me… I like movies, knitting, cooking, re-arranging the furniture, and most crafts involving fabric.

I’ve never heard the term “railfanning” before. I like it!

What board games do you like to play?

Stephanie, I have four straights and I (sort of) know how to use them! I shaved with a Dorko 6/8 full hollow ground singing razor this morning. I have two leather strops and one four sided paddle strop.

Board games? We’ve recently discovered The Settlers of Catan and Ingenious. Great games! Ingenious is a simple strategy game, while Settlers is a more involved world domination type thingy (but not really).

Wow, you really are into the fine art of shaving! That’s really cool. Ground singing, huh? I’m learning all kinds of things with this post – railfanning, Dorkos… When your Nikon comes home, would you take some portraits of your shaving tools? I think that would make a neat photo essay.

[...] So a while back Stephanie asked for some more photos of my shaving items. Here’s a couple Stephanie. [...]
