Close Encounters of the Hairy Kind
While finishing up the packing-up of our current house this week, my wife and I noticed that the spiders were out in force. With Halloween fast approaching, I thought you guys might need a refresher on what makes for a good spider and associated web.
The Brown spotty (Spiderus Spottius) one looks cool and was in front of the house just waiting for something to munch on (update, late yesterday I saw her mummifying something, so spider:1, misc-bug: 0).

She was resplendant in her spots and stripes that, at some angles, looked like a large face to scare away preditors.

The fat Orb-Weaver (Arachnida Obeseitora) was hanging around the Elephant Ears in the awesome webs that these guys make.

They put them up after dusk, and tear them down again in the morning. they’re great fun to watch as they spin their webs.
These were all taken with my Nikon D200, Nikon SB-800 flash, fired remotely so I can change the lighting angle at-will, and my Nikon 105mm Micro-VR lens.
It was nice of all these guys to come out just in time for Halloween.
Happy (early) Halloween!
