Favorite Things - The Fair at Night
Anyone who’s visited our house could tell you that I love lights. Lots of them. I love small, colorful lights, none of which would be enough to light up much of anything on their own, but together create a magical warmth. So you can imagine how in awe I am of the Fair at night, when the lights go on and the whole place looks like it’s on fire. We went to the Fair this weekend and I had a chance to get a few great shots of the action… the lights glowing, the people moving, the rides spinning. I actually got lost from the rest of our group 3 or 4 times because I’d stopped to take photos. (Click continue reading for more photos!)
But what would the fair be without the food? I stopped to take a picture of a stand that had made a regular appearance in it’s same form for 40 years – the Gingerbread Shop. I stopped to talk to the manager who was with his family. He gave me the history of the gingerbread man (Mikey) and explained that his stand was the most photographed place at the Fair! Quite a claim, but I actually believe him.
My favorite photo, though, is of my girls, smiling on the midway. It’s one of those photos that captures a wonderful moment – my daughter seeing all of it for the first time and, warily, loving every second of it. It may be a cliche, but it’s true – seeing the world through the eyes of your children makes the world much more fun.

Chris - I love these all! It was almost worth it to lose you in the crowd that many times to get such great shots (and with our dinky point-and-shoot)!
You’re right - the Fair is that much better with a kid in tow!
