Favorite Things – Videogames

Favorites - Videogames I am a product of my times. Could any boy growing up in the 80s not love videogames? While earlier generations dreamed of becoming firemen or doctors or loan officers, my generation dreamed of building the next Legend of Zelda or 720. It was my fascination with videogames that drove me to build my first games in elementary and middle school, creating every character and background – all of the art – pixel by pixel. I think it’s fair to say that I wouldn’t be a graphic artist if I hadn’t spent so many hours coding my own paint programs, drawing monsters and robots (again, pixel by pixel), and studying the art of some of the games that I still love to play today.

So when I sat down with my camera to think through what my favorite things are now, I knew I couldn’t miss the one passion that’s remained the same whether I was 8, 15, 16, 23 or… 32. I guess the main difference now is I get to share the controller with my daughter.

As a side note, my friend Gary worked on The Incredibles videogame as an story-boarder, which just happens to also be his son’s favorite game. How great is it when your child can play with Daddy’s work?

Awesome shot of your controller! The light is gorgeous. Nice job.

[...] Most people who know me would agree that I’m a Microsoft guy. I love my X-Box. I love Windows XP. SQL Server’s client tools are worth using and Visual Studio is surprisingly powerful. My previous business was an all Microsoft shop. So how in the world did I become a proponent of Linux and Ubuntu? Simple – I needed better compatibility with the tools I used, and neither Windows nor OS X could provide that. [...]
