Photographing Baby Parts To Preserve Memories
They won’t be this small forever. So get that camera out and start snapping photos of all their little cute parts — chubby toes, dirty fingernails, hair bows askew. Each little detail makes up the whole of the child you love. And however much we try to memorize each little arm roll, they grow quickly and new memories of first steps and best friends and back to school will slowly start pushing the baby memories out. Sigh.
My husband teases me that “the inevitable,” as we call it in our house, always makes me weepy. So I did what any mother of an almost one-year-old would do — I snapped about a billion photos of my baby (she’s still a baby for now!) and all her adorable little baby parts. I know in just a few months she won’t be crawling on the grass, she’ll be running! So I figured now was the time to slow down and get up close and personal with that little nose and those big blues. Then I chose a variety of photos that I felt went well together and that captured her 11-month-old essence, and I created a mosaic using fd’s Flickr Toys. It’s easy to create a cohesive mosaic when you use photographs all from one photo session, as the lighting is usually the same and the background tends to be similar in all the shots.
I know I have sung the praises of fd’s fabulous Flickr toys a time or two, but if you still have not checked them out for yourself, head over and create some great projects (and gifts!) from your own photos.
Remember to stop and enjoy those tiny fingers and toes a little while longer today. And then get out that camera and preserve them forever.

You need to try harder to become obsessive-compulsive!
I SAID YOU NEED TO TRY HARDER TO BECOME OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE!

I love these. I call them “portrait pieces.” Oddly, I only have one in my flickr set:

I’m not sure why, except I got obsessed by something else.

[...] With any mosaic, the main thing is to remember to take all of the photos in the same light with similar backgrounds in each. I did what I could to get the same background in each shot, but with a running toddler, it was harder than I thought. But since the light on the grass made it the same color in every photo, that gave everything a uniform feel. [...]
