Cardboard Box and Tissue Paper Lightbox
I really love reading Strobist. I’ve been following the blog every day since I found out about it. (Was it you, Jim, that pointed us to it?) He recently posted about an inexpensive way to make a lightbox out of a cardboard box and some tissue paper. I was intrigued.
I’ve been doing some product shots for Saint Charles Shave using a couple floods, diffusion panels, reflectors, etc… (A future post about this setup is in the works.) The setup works well, but was a little time consuming. I don’t have a room to turn into a studio, so my equipment needs to be portable. I set up every time I need to do some shots. The Strobist idea was great as I would be able to use just the lightbox and my trusty Nikon SB-800. Well, I finally got around to tyring it out. I have to tell you, this lightbox is a dandy. And it cost me only $4. You really need to go make one of these. It’s a real time saver for me.

[...] I received a great photo umbrella and universal swivel holder from my sister-in-law this past Christmas. As usual, Strobist turned my onto these low cost wonders. I’ve been doing a lot of cardboard lightbox macro shots lately and have been pretty happy. However, the box does somewhat hinder your ability to vary the direction of the light. It also restricts you to a certain size object. So I was mighty pleased to get my new umbrella and holder and finally had a chance to try them out tonight. I’ll post a setup photo later (forgot to take one), but I was happy with the results from a 5 minute test. The following was taken with my Nikon D70, SP-800 mounted on the holder and bounced from the umbrella, at f/8. I’ll be sure to post more after I get a chance to get a feel for working with my new toys. And the best part about this umbrella…it only took a few minutes to setup and break down!
