Color of the Day: Black
There’s something almost magical about a wet dog nose. The touch of it — even just looking at it — can make the worst day better. This particular wet nose happens to belong to my favorite non-human and my 9-month-old daughter’s best friend, Sarah Dog.
Today’s color — black — was a little easier for inspiration. My dog has the best black features, not to mention her scruffy black/brown/gray fur and beard. Yes, beard! So wonderful, I can’t even explain it. She also always looks like she’s wearing dark Goth eyeliner, so I had to get a close-up of her eyes, too. I love how fun and disjointed these pictures feel because you can’t see her whole face.
But to balance out the gushing over how much I adore my dog, I decided to take some photos of this amazing old-timey phone that we have in our family room. It’s one of those old rotary ones that you just don’t come across that often anymore. And as of last year, my husband and I were still using it in our bedroom. Now it’s just on display and not actually plugged into anything, but it still buzzes eerily when you hold the receiver to your ear. I played around with the afternoon light in the room and also the levels and saturation in Photoshop, and I really like the way these shots turned out. Hey, I just might be able to finish off this week of colors yet.

Cool looking phone, and nice nose!
The focusing doesn’t seem to be quite on the nose though.. perhaps that is your lens?
Nice black photos, I decided against this challenge though, as my computer died this week.

Yeah, I’m using a point and shoot. So that pretty much explains the focusing issues…
