Travel Photos-Part II Detail Shots
In our last travel article (click here) we covered some of the general aspects of travel photography, now we’ll examine addtional opportunities to take your audience even closer in the world you’ve just experienced.
One thing you need when taking vacation and travel shots, are “detail shots”. These type of shots can help better convey a sense of place and take your viewers closer into the place you are showing them. They can better illustrate local people, foods, vehicles, customs, almost anything that’s different from your day-to-day world is a photo opportunity.
Tightly cropped scenic shots help get your audience in closer from the wider shots that are typically taken.
They can convey detail that would be missed along the roadside as one drives by…
The detail of a family-farm…..
or a local grower gives the viewer more to apprecate of the local environment.
Unique shots of local landmarks make a nice change from mid-day wide angle views…
As do signs of local delicacies or places.
Signs with the name of the city you’re in help to localize your story and let the viewers know where they’re looking at…
Unusual foods and signs are always a good way to keep interest in your travel story!
From Octopus……
to a Turkey Bar-B-Que, people are always interested in what’s cooking the world over.
…the stranger, the better….
Showing people places you ate (and liked) is a good idea!
Local attractions and unique objects help to convey the uniqueness of each location…
Cars, car museums, transportation….
make good subjects.
Trucks too…
of course, getting there is half the battle, but don’t expect a clean car…
The sites and places that make each place unique help to show others the full scope of your travels….
Local customs..
Local characters…
…are a very good way to convey the uniqueness.
But the best travel photos, always include some of the local population…
…the local people are always the best part of the trip and help to make your photos memorable.
Don’t forget to hang out with all the local population on your next photo-vacation!
