I Take Bad Photographs
So does everyone. And so goes a recent post on photodoto. I’ve talked before about culling as it’s a rather important process to photography. My problem remains that I only use flickr as my on-line viewing service. And since there are many photos that have value to me, I can’t delete them. But, showing these photos publicly only leads to reducing the opinion of my work by others. (But hey, it’s a hobby, so who am I try to impress?)
I’ve thought about creating two accounts. But that would cost me twice as much. And if I’m being honest with myself, twice the amount of work. I I’d have a hard time pointing choosing which place to point people depending on what I want to show. I guess I could take better advantage of the privacy features in flickr. Doing so would allow me to only share the borderline photos with friends and/or family. They already know too well about my ability to take some crappy photos.
And then there’s the problem of doing all the work and having nothing to show for it.
Sometimes I’ll get back from a morning of shooting and try to find something to salvage only to delete the entire batch in frustration. It can cause some anguish, especially when the photograph is of a subject you love. But the process will improve your photography.
I’ve had this experience. I woke up early in Washington to take some photos of locations I scoped out earlier. Came back and deleted the whole bunch. Very disappointing. But I’d do it all again with the hope of that magic shot.

Sadly, so true.. The only thing is, I try to hold on a bit more to my photographs. I get a bit too emotional about them. :-/ I might delete 5-10 from a hundred, but I try to rationalize that I might be able to pull something from the other ninety.. Usually forget about them, and they get stuffed back.

I put the work I consider to be my best on Photo.net
The community there provides excellent feedback, and it’s generally a good kind of architecture in which to showcase your best work.

I’ve done that as well (used photo.net) in the past. It’s just hard to find the time to upload my photos to two places. Maybe photo.net is a place I need to revisit again.
