The Numbers Challenge: 8
I’ve taken on the new photography challenge from DP Blogs, 10 Numbers, and let me just say it up front — it is much harder than I thought it would be. On May 1, DP Blogs challenged photographers to get out there and find number shapes in unexpected places. Stephanie gives some suggestions to stir your imagination, such as taking “a shot of a squash that looks like a 7 or a shot of a hose on your neighbor’s yard that looks like a 9.”
I thought that since we’re all about photographing children over here at Shooting the Kids, it would be fun to have my numbers be associated with kids and toys. I’m not sure I’ll be able to pull that off for all 10 though.
I’ve been looking all week for numbers. It’s changing the way I look at everything. Here is my first feeble attempt at the challenge. The daughter, as usual, was my lovely and willing model. I set her up on her blanket to play. All of a sudden that eight made of plastic rings was the only thing my eyes could see. I had to take several shots to get one where the rings are stacked like an eight because the daughter kept wanting chew on them, so they never stayed in one place very long. This was taken with the trusty Canon PowerShot SD110, as always.
I’m excited to see what the others who have joined are going to come up with. Are you up for the challenge? Leave a comment and we’ll get you listed with the rest of the numbers crew.
Time to get counting!

I’m having a heck of a time finding numbers, too. Shayne and I are going to Disneyland next week and I’m hoping to find most of my numbers there. We’ll see…

Great idea. It might be time for an outting for me, too. I’ve already scoured my house and the neighborhood!

[...] As I’ve said previously, the new DP Blogs 10 Numbers Challenge is not as easy as it sounds. I had originally thought it would be fun to try to find things that look like numbers using only things that were kid-oriented. That only lasted a day. My daughter’s toys provided only so much inspiration. [...]

[...] I joined a color challenge for this week, and I’m bound and determined to finish at least one challenge I start on this blog! (The 30 days of photos and the numbers challenge were not my best examples of diligence and perseverance.) But I decided this challenge was more my speed since it’s only one week. Maybe I need to work my way up to a whole month-long challenge little by little, one color at a time. [...]
