I’m Moving On, DeleteMe!

I have a love hate thing going for the flickr group DeleteMe!. It's not that I don't understand the point of DeleteMe!.
  • Post a pic.
  • People make comments.
  • Get 10 "deleteme" comments and get your photo deleted from the group.
or
  • Get 10 "saveme" comments and get your photo permantly stored in the safe.
I knew going in it would be tough. I can take the abuse. Give me the worst you have and I'll swallow my pride as best I can. But I'm finding the comments to be less and less constructive. Not that I really expected much, but "Quick! Someone grab the gauze, my eyes are bleeding!!!" doesn't really say anything at all. So I've been looking for something a little more intellectual (wanna hear a fart joke?). I've found the following and think I may give them a go. Supportive Critique - For Starters
Discuss, learn, improve, and SEE better, through constructive comments about your photos!
There seems to be some active people making very good comments. There's also an intermediate group for the more experienced reviewer. I'm going to check it out after I get used to the comment format and types of comments expected.
Score Me!
Comment on 5 photos and get 5 comments about yours. While I don't think photography can be summed up in a 0 to 10 scale, it's sure more helpful than DeleteMe!.
So does that mean I'm giving up on DeleteMe!. Nah. I'll get a photo in the safe some day. But in the mean time, I'm going to get some good critique from other artists looking to improve their work as well. Have any groups you like? Please share.

[...] I previously wrote about DeleteMe and why I was moving on.  So this post by The Online Photographer made me laugh out loud.  Seems not even Cartier-Bresson is good enough for “The Safe”.  I’d advise you stay far, far away from DeleteMe if you’re looking for useful artistic critique. [...]

OMG. I really don’t get around to photo sites or forums on flickr much so this started me on quite the adventure. I’ve now just wasted my daughter’s whole nap time reading and thinking about this role of flickr/forums and comments/criticism. Thanks.

You saw this one, right?

Oh dear.

Very funny! I hadn’t seen that one yet. Need to check bloglines today.
