Picture of the Day 28 – Embree’s Dream Pillow
I’m nearing the end of the 30 Day Photo Challenge. I took a couple of days off because life got in the way, but overall, it’s been a great experience. I’ve learned a lot about my own taste and shooting style this month. It seems as though I gravitate to quirky product shots and quiet portraits. If you want to see all my shots from the 30 Day Photo Challenge, just click on the Picture-A-Day link above.
My cousin, Embree di Persiis is an amazing potter and ceramicist. She has the most beautiful home in the California mountains. It’s kind of my dream house because it’s so unique and set in such a great location. There are so many little nooks in the house filled with gifts from artist friends & photographers, treasured family objects, and lots of books. It’s a restful feast for the eyes. Adjacent to her house is her potter’s studio with her kilns and work area. Just being there makes me feel creative. Good feng shui, definitely.
This is my favorite Embree-made piece. It’s called a dream pillow. It is made from porcelain and before she fires it in the kiln, she wraps it in seaweed to give its unique colorations.
I took this shot using my Nikon D70s on a 70mm lens with a +4 diopter. The dream pillow was placed by a diffused window with a long exposure.

Hey – maybe I should pick up my camera and start where I left off. I’ve actually been thinking about doing that, once I get a few more things finished and I’m not the programming monster that I’ve been. Good to know I’m not the only one catching up!
