PhotoRec Saves Your Photos
So I think I may have a somewhat faulty Compact Flash card. I should have noticed the signs earlier, but I’m a little dense sometimes. I started to have some problems transferring files a couple days ago. I didn’t think much of it because it eventually worked. But then I started to get some funky shots, that I chalked up to something going wrong with my D70.
But, I’m finally coming around to it maybe being a card problem. So I was glad to find this nifty piece of open source (read: free) data recovery tool.
PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost pictures or lost files from digital camera memory (CompactFlash, Memory Stick, SecureDigital, SmartMedia, Microdrive, MMC, USB Memory Drives…), even Hard Disks and CDRom.
PhotoRec is safe to use, it will never attempt to write to the drive or memory support you are about to recover from. Recovered files are instead written in the directory from where you are running the PhotoRec program.PhotoRec is free, it is distributed under GNU Public License. TestDisk and Photorec are shipped together. You can download them from this link.
It’s not the best looking software, with a command line interface, but it seems to do the job. And the price can’t be beat.
Enjoy. I hope you don’t have to use it.
