Day 18-Eine Kleine Nachtmusik
Well, we got the posters done and to the printers, so another project bites the dust. The printers are ‘WHITENER GRAPHICS” in Costa Mesa,CA, and let me tell you, if you ever need any large-format printing (the posters were 60″ x 36″) Mark & Sue will give you better service than you can get anywhere, check them out next time you have a large-format print job. Thanks Mark & Sue, you guys are awesome!
Now it’s time for a little night music – It was time to try and re-create some of that moody lighting you might find in a favorite night-spot or bar.
The blue lights off of the stage, mixing with the candle-light coming from each table.
While this isn’t really ” A Little Night Music”, it could be called ” A Little Light Music”
My local plant volunteered to pose for the long-exposure picture. I set it up on a table in front of the vertical Mini-blinds.
I set my Nikon D200 on Manual exposure, set the ISO to 100, and the shutter to give me a 13-second exposure, with an aperture on my 18-200 VR Nikon lens to about f11. I set the white-balance to “cloudy” to help out the weaker warm-light.
This was all sitting on top of my Manfrotto tripod.
Now it’s time to bring out the lights. I took my Popular Science 2-AA flashlight and taped a blue-gel to the front for the “stage” lighting, and then took a single-AAA MagLight and used that for the candle-light.
With the room totally dark, I tripped the shutter (which had a 10-second timed delay) and shone the lights on the plant, adjusting the lighting to get it where I wanted it. I pretty much had the MagLight fixed on each of the flowers for half of the exposure time, while I moved the PopSci light around the leafy part.
That was about it. I took a few exposures to evaluate my results and adjusted the lights accordingly.
Digital photography is too much fun!
