Picture of the Day 13 – Ode to Rotten Tomato
I’m totally late in submitting my picture for the day, but Chloe was teething all yesterday and the day was filled with tears. In my kitchen, one tomato invariably goes bad. Case in point. I like this tomato, there’s something alive about it (like mold spores). I wanted to make a beautiful portrait of something kind of gross. Voila!
I used my Nikon D70s set to Macro on a 70mm lens at F/8.

Very, very yucky. See – I’m a dad, so I can say things like “yucky” and “tummy” now. So if you ate that tomato, your tummy would feel yucky.
You must be loving your camera!

Mmm…rotten tomato.
Looks like you used your flash wirelessly (is that a word)?

Actually, it’s just plain old sunshine. After I looked at the pics, I wanted a little more light on the background. So I went back to the kitchen and used my reflector, but there was some magic missing in the shot. I stuck with my first attempt.

Loved the shine on the “unrotten” part of the tomato. Very nice contrast on the white plate.
