You Can Hold the Button Down?
So it’s 10PM and I need to get out of the house and shoot some photos. I end up strolling out onto the property to see if I can get some black & white shots of the rain on the asphalt. There were a couple of neat shots, but it was while I was attempting to take a picture of a car coming down the street that I discovered that our camera has this little icon with multiple boxes all lined up – like if you took a picture it would take multiple pictures in a row. I swear I’ve never seen this button before. What I discovered made me wish I had.
As I stood there holding the button down to take the photo, the camera just kept shooting away. The car got closer. The images got clearer (because I was holding still now) and everything just started to work. The car came right up next to me and the camera captured just the last bits of the tail-lights – the aura of a ghost car that was no longer actually in the frame.
There are so many reasons why I’m going to leave this option on, but mostly I just like that it keeps shooting as I steady little by little until I’ve got a clear shot. I wonder what other settings I’m missing!
I’m also including my photo from the weekend of the Daughter at Chili’s. It’s fun to wander around places with a camera. People do tend to look at you weird when you’re taking pictures of salt shakers and ketchup bottles, but that’s just part of the teritory, I guess.

Cool, Dude. Very “exorcist” like. You almost expect a Priest to come out of the lights. Your daughter is, as always, cute.

Of course she is always cute. And, yes, I like the B&W street scene – sure glad the guy didn’t hit you while you were “shooting”.

What’s funny, Jon, is that’s exactly what I was trying to capture!

[...] Alright, I’ll stop making excuses and get to posting some pictures. Since last week was crazy, I’ve got Days 16-22 to catch up on. Whew! The photo shown here is one of my favorites of the set. It’s today, Day 22 — The Daughter and Daddy playing the keys. It’s so fun to watch her learn new things every day. The camera was set to manual so that I could hold the button down and attempt to get one good shot out of the many, many taken. [...]

[...] But don’t forget as you’re taking spontaneous photographs of the party, to make sure and get those key planned shots too, like the candle blowing, cake eating and present opening. Also, for these times, it’s great to use burst mode (the manual setting on your camera that allows you to shoot continuously, by simply holding the button down). You don’t want to miss a crucial shot because your camera was “thinking” for a second or two before the next shot. [...]
