Photo A Day – Streets of Pasadena

Photo a Day - Day 5, Sign For my fifth installment of the Photo a Day project, I grabbed my camera as I was heading out the door for work this morning. I work at an art and design college in Pasadena, California, so I was sure there would be something interesting to shoot. But, as usual, I got busy with the day and didn’t have a chance to pull out my camera until I was walking to my car to go home.

I took a couple of unremarkable photos in the parking lot and then quickly ditched the effort for the evening. But as I was driving down the hill, I passed this hilarious street sign that has mysteriously sat like this for months. I guess this isn’t too unusual for being right around the corner from an art school. Perhaps an art student making a social statement? I’ve often driven by and wished I had a camera with me (something better than my crappy camera phone). I was in luck today! I pulled over and grabbed the shot, the “No Stopping Any Time” sign reminding me I had to hurry.

When I got home, Chris helped me bring out the colors with level adjusting in Photoshop. We also added a slight vignette around the border to make the sign pop even more. I usually don’t doctor my photos, but after seeing how much the colors stood out against the sky with a little tweaking, I’m now a fan.

Photo a Day - Day 4, CandlesAlso, here’s my Day 4 shot – candles at night. While other photographers were out shooting in the rain, I happily lit some candles and enjoyed it from the inside!

[...] Boy oh boy, I really pushed this one to the last minute. I just couldn’t think of anything interesting around the house to photograph. Obviously the creative juices weren’t frozen. While talking with my girlfriend Maria I mentioned I was going to head out to drive around and see if anything interesting comes to mind. She could believe I was heading out at 9:00 PM to find a photo op so she suggested I try something like a candle after seeing Amy’s image, which she liked a great deal. So here is my version of a candle shot. [...]

[...] This one is barely making it in time (again). I need to get the camera out during the DAY. Sheesh. I’m such a slacker. Seeing as it was dark, and I was inspired by others, here’s my take on the candle photo. [...]
