Picture of the Day 3 – Bolex

Picture of the day 3
Yesterday was a big day. First of all, it was my birthday. Second of all, I worked all morning on a new feature article about shooting products for eBay and building a diffusion panel for product shots. Stay tuned for this article in a week or two. To demonstrate this lighting and shooting technique, I decided to photograph my Bolex 16mm motion picture camera, which I am selling this month. Here is one of the shots I took today. Shooting shiny metal objects is tricky, but with a diffusion panel, a bounce card and some daylight, the results can look pretty good. I did crop this shot in Photoshop and used the healing brush to get rid of some schmutz on the backdrop. Generally, I don’t like to monkey around with my images, but this shot really benefitted from some cropping. What do you think?

Beautiful shot (and Happy Birthday!). Don’t tell me you’re selling your Bolex…I’ll want to buy it just because it’s so beautiful. Next you’ll be strutting your Beaulieu around too!!

Thanks! Yup, I’m selling my Bolex. It’s a swell camera and in perfect condition, but I never use it and feel it should go to a good home. It was part of my deal to myself that I could buy the Nikon D70s if I sold my Bolex. I’m also selling my film winders.

[...] Well winter has come to Southern California today, unlike BadDog’s picture of the beach-life taken this past weekend. Being cooped up all day today while working on some feelance stuff, I didn’t get much of a chance to get out and get a picture (not that you have to go outside to take good pictures, just ask Stephanie).
