My New Dell 2001FP Monitor
Got a new monitor at work. It’s a Dell 2001FP. Some of you may know I haven’t held Dell in the highest regard this past year (Maybe I’ll get around to writing about that later), but I wasn’t holding my breath. But after using for the last two weeks, I found it to be, well, er…FREAKIN AWESOME!
Love the native 1600×1200 resolution. Love it! It’s super bright and has the best color I’ve seen in any monitor I’ve used. I did a little research and found the LCD panel is made by LG.Phillips. I also found a very nice review as well that confirmed my initial impressions. Turns out this new monitor is quite the seductress.
You should note the colors were a little off at first. My Spyder2 helped solve that problem painlessly. The lesson is, even a $650 monitor needs to be calibrated. Just saying.
So, now my 17″ Samsung 710N at home isn’t quite as impressive. I’ve loved it since the day I got it. But all of a sudden it doesn’t seem as bright…and it’s a little smaller than I remembered…and, well you get it. I always thought I wanted to get a second 17″ to match it and do the whole dual monitor thing. Working in Photoshop would be great with some more space. But maybe a single 20″ would do it. Or…maybe TWO 20″ers would do it.
So there you go. Dell doesn’t suck as much as I thought. Who knew?

[...] My co-bloggers SyncSpeed and SlightlyOutOfFocus are bringing up a great topic, I just think they are a little off the mark. I must agree that a Dell 20IN LCD is nice, but it lacks for real estate, which is a premium when editing in photos in programs like Adobe Photoshop. The idea of using all that space provided by the 32IN WinBook LC32 is extremely appealing, but with a native resolution of only 1366 x 768 pixels you’ll be giving up a lot in the image resolution for all that extra room. I would also be concerned with the color range capabilities and accuracy of this mainly TV monitor when used as your primary display for photo editing. [...]

[...] I love my Samsung 710N monitor. It’s a good 17-incher. Sure it’s not a Dell 2100FP but it does the job. As you may know, I really really really like calibrated monitors. Even at work, where I don’t need perfect color, I calibrate. Maybe it’s a little OCD, but it sure bugs me when it’s not calibrated. [...]
