My D70 Standard Settings – A Meme for DPBlogs
A meme. Now we’re really blogging.
I use a Nikon D70. My standard settings are as follows.
- What is your default white balance set to?
I typically use auto white balance because the D70 is very good at determining white balance. I only change it when needed. Lately, I’ve been playing with the Fine-Tune section. I’m starting to become fond of a -3 setting for just a little extra warmth.
- What is your default ISO setting?
ISO 200. I’d go to 100 if I had it. (Wishing for a D200…) Although, I can easily go to 640 without much thought. I have a few shots at 1600 and have been very pleased with the noise.
- What is your default file type?
JPG. I only use RAW for two things. Very special pictures, like portraits, or very complex lighting that is going to take some massaging in Photoshop.
- What is your default image size?
Large. Always.
- What is your default focusing setting?
Auto focus. Single shot. Single area. AF assist light on.
- What is your default color settings (color space or color mode)?
IIIa (sRGB). I used to use AdobeRGB for the larger color gamut, but I had to always tweak in photoshop to really get the vivid colors I like. So I tend to stick to IIIa unless I’m shooting portraits.
- What is your default sharpening setting?
Auto. I’m thinking about bumping this up a little to reduce my Photoshop time.
- What is your default program mode?
Aperture priority. Almost always.
- What is your default saturation setting?
Enhanced. I like vivid.
I also use a custom tone curve to compensate for the ANSI meter standard. If I didn’t, I’d have to add an exposure compensation factor of +.33 EV. But that’s another post for another day.

Is there a page for the D70S?

The D70S should be almost identical. The options are the same.
